Jim was born and raised in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Upon graduating from Gannon University with an Electrical Engineering degree, Jim moved to the Washington D.C. area and spent the next four years focused on engineering work. Since then, he has worked in the Information Technology consulting industry for nearly 20 years. He has led major initiatives in all aspects of IT, from sales and service order entry/management systems to web infrastructure. Since focusing his time on The Porter Company, he has enjoyed all aspects of launching a business and building his expertise in mobile app development. He currently lives in Arlington, Virginia with his wife, Dena, and three young children, Patrick (4), Henry (2), and baby Grace.

Dena was born in northern Michigan, and grew up in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. She earned a Psychology and Business Marketing degree from The College of William & Mary, after which she moved to northern Virginia for a position at a major IT Consulting firm. She spent the next nine years focused primarily on project management for Information Technology and overall business initiatives. While not staying up with their 4 month old baby daughter, she has enjoyed raising her two boys and working with her husband, Jim, to launch The Porter Company.
